so... you knew?

So... You Knew?

is a solo performance written, performed and produced by Bartolomeo Bartolini, directed by Maria Cristina Petitti.

"Bartolomeo Bartolini manages to blend real-life facts and figures with dance, song and comedy in a way that steers clear of being in any way preachy."

“It is a rare sight to witness such fervor in a performance.”

In 1982, William, a scientist working for EcsonWobil confirms with unconfutable proof that Co2 emissions pumped in the atmosphere by the fossil fuel industry, is detrimental for our health and our world's.

He is going to speak to the company's CEO. But the CEO response is a surprising one: William gets offered a bonus and a brand new job in the company!

With the arrival of his first-born Daisy, he doesn't regret getting that pay-rise. He is officially an advisor to the PR department of EcsonWobil.

“deliciously silly”

William's story is paused for a advertisement break.
"Dirtwater©, presenting the new sand-based drink that is just like water, but with a little extra crunch! Perfect for periods of draught!"

Then, the news - Channel 30 Live News 24 Hours Always For Ever and Ever and For All Eternity - in 2050, which sums up the most important news, like that lady in Norway eating the last salmon fillet remained on earth, or the mice that are taking over buildings really quickly thanks to their adaptability to a warming climate.

One quick look at the weather - and we're back in the present, following William's story.

“a strong message handled with lightness, humour and, therefore, a great deal of hope.”

SPOILERS AHEAD!

William is able to climb up in the PR department, becoming one big boss making the most important decisions in the company's PR strategy.

Yet, there's still something from his past as a scientist at the back of his mind. Daisy, his daughter, becomes an activist and he soon discovers that the only way to have her daughter back in his life, is to make some difficult changes.

One of the ways in which Bartolini sidesteps an overly tendentious narrative is to tell the all too human story of one of the bad guys in the climate crisis story.
